RECAP: Beyoncé’s “Formation World Tour” Is An Experience of Self Love & Female Prowess

by micahbermoy_kvesxm | published: Jun 10, 2016

“Do we have any queens in the house tonight?” Beyoncé asked a roaring crowd of thousands during her tour stop at New York City’s Citi Field on June 8th, 2016.

Complete with a pairing of visual and vocal prowess, the “Formation World Tour” held an overarching theme of female empowerment and self love.

As this was not my first Queen Bey rodeo, I came equipped with high expectations and high spirits. DJ Khaled’s opening set was just the tip of the iceberg, readying the crowd with a slew of special guests including Fabolous, Tinashe, Jadakiss and The Lox, Swizz Beats and Ty Dollar $ign. Ever the eager fan, I was now fully prepared to inflict irreconcilable damage on both my vocal cords and feet, from my infinite screams to my tippy toe stance, as crowd participation is a must.

Opening the show with fan favorite and viral sensation “Formation,” Beyoncé took the stage and began a give-and-take affair with her dancers and band that followed through out the night. All women in different shades and sizes, it was as if if they were an extension of herself, complementing her both in talent and beauty — feeding off of each others energy and skill. In a display of a female power, Bey and her team personifies the duality of “I am woman, here me roar” to “I am sexual and sensual,” challenging anyone who said they could never be both.

Beyonce's Formation World Tour - Flushing

Even on the Citi Field stage, “Formation World Tour” maintained the feel of the Lemonade HBO special in it’s superior performance, visual display and musical story-line. Effortlessly transitioning in and out of nearly two decades worth of hits, it moved in waves, from tracks like “Drunk in Love” and “Baby Boy” to “Me, “Myself and I” and “Halo,” all sequenced in a fashion that highlighted the Queen’s vocal chops, even whilst dancing at full speed. Topping the night off with a special Prince tribute, she serenaded the crowd with a rendition of “The Beautiful Ones.”

In a perfect play on emotions, the audience was reacquainted with feelings of joy and passion, sensuality and love and a endless appreciation of Beyoncé’s hard-work and dedication, reinforcing her statement that “there is no such thing as a weak woman.” In a emotionally riveting and awe-inspiring example of showmanship and talent, Beyoncé continues to remind us of why she warrants so much praise, and most importantly, why it is so deserving.

RECAP: Future, Jhené Aiko, The Internet, Anderson. Paak Bring The Vibes To Broccoli City Fest 2016

by micahbermoy_kvesxm | published: May 01, 2016

Despite another year of dreary clouds and rain, Washington D.C.’s highlighted event Broccoli City Festival went on this past Saturday, April 30th.

While music festivals have continually been a highlighted event for the spring and summer seasons, BC Fest was founded by Brandon McEachern, Marcus Allen, Darryl Perkins and Jermon Williams in 2013 apart of their Broccoli City Lifestyle Group. The event has truly made it’s mark in being a gateway to connecting millenials in living a healthier lifestyle all the while supplying the sounds from some of music’s most groundbreaking artists. This year was no exception. Headliners Future, Jhené Aiko, The Internet, Anderson. Paak, BJ The Chicago Kid, Sango, and more blessed a crowd of over 10,000 with sounds on the main stage with locals acts like Rare Essence, Reesa Renee, DJ Ayescold and Ace Cosgrove serenading the second stage.

We were also able to catch MTV’s Sway along with GoldLink and Robert Glasper enjoying the vibes for what would be a day to remember. Catch a few photographs below on behalf of BC Fest officials & Sabrina Vaz-Holder.

Recap: Ray-Ban & Boiler Room Partner Up For “Open Your Heart”

by micahbermoy_kvesxm | published: Apr 14, 2016

IMG_8891

Last night Boiler Room TV and Ray-Ban kicked off the first pillar of their 6-pillared activation series in Los Angeles titled “Open Your Heart.” The event was curated by music collective Soulection and included live performances from Jhené Aiko, BJ The Chicago Kid, and Kali Uchis. Along with those talented artists gracing the stage, we were also blessed with a few DJ sets from the Soulection crew.

The night was filled with good vibes, good music, and lots of dancing. BJ The Chicago Kid even included his own rendition of two Usher classics, “Nice and Slow,” and “Superstar” during his set. With views around the room, you could see that there wasn’t one person who was not singing word-for-word.

Towards the end of the night LA’s sweetheart Jhené Aiko stole the show with her sultry voice and glowing stage presence. She performed “London Bridge” from her latest project with Big Sean, Twenty88, and even brought a special guest (daughter Nami), who she claimed had school in the morning and should have been sleeping. Together they did a touching performance of “Promises” dedicated to Aiko’s late brother. The performance had everyone in awe and left us all yearning for an encore.

We’re looking forward to the next pillar of the “RBxBR” series, which will be titled “Push Yourself”. The Location, and other information are yet to be announced.

The Saint Heron team brought our PROCLAMATION! party series back to our colorful city of New Orleans! Party patrons left it all on the floor as KYWO delighted with our favorite R&B and hip-hop sounds from the early 2000’s. Wrapped in urban industrial decor, New Orleans vibed like only we could — with the mystical assist of hot pink neon, fog for ambience and a trippy Sun-Ra projection.
